Karl Fritz then moved many Eldians onto Paradis Island and built the Walls by creating thousands of Colossus Titans, which hardened to form three concentric walls. They distributed the Titans they had (with the exception of the War Hammer Titan) among Eldians loyal to them known as Warriors. They succeeded in inciting a civil war, the Great Titan War, with the help of the people of Marley and while Eldia collapsed from the inside, Marley seized control over seven of the Nine Titans, with only the Founding and Attack Titans escaping their grasp. He conspired with the Tybur family as atonement for the actions of their ancestors and fabricated the story of Helos, a Marleyan hero who defeated King Fritz. When the 145th King, Karl Fritz, inherited the Founding Titan, he held great shame for the actions of his people and carried sympathy for Marley. The noble families who held the Nine Titans, other than the Fritz family, were in a constant state of conflict with each other, but the Founding Titan had maintained the peace. The Nine Titans fighting each other in the Great Titan War Examples include the Fritz family with the Founding Titan and Tybur family with the War Hammer Titan. As family relations play a significant role in passing and inheriting memories from the previous inheritors of the Titans, the Nine Titans normally resided within noble families during Eldia's reign. The Nine Titans soon destroyed the ancient nation of Marley and conquered the entire continent to build the Eldian Empire. Eventually, the powers would split further into the individual Nine Titans, which were subsequently inherited by nine of her descendants. Thirteen years later, she died and her power was then divided between her three daughters who had been forced by their father to consume her remains. It gets even more twisted than that: the connection between Zeke and Eren that is revealed makes the Yeager family history Shakespeare-level tragic, while "That Day" reveals the fact that the Titans who took down Shinganshina, and caused the horrific death of Eren Yeager's mother, were connected to actions of both Grisha Yeager and Zeke.Eight of the Nine Titans unleashed upon the worldĪround 2,000 years ago, Ymir Fritz obtained the power of the Titans and became the first Titan, which later came to be known as the Founding Titan. With this revelation, it's now clear that Eren, Mikasa, Armin - every one of the main characters from Attack on Titan has been living a lie, with their minds literally lacking the context to understand their reality. Grisha Yeager and the Eldian Restorationists (led by "The Owl") also infiltrated the Walls with the same goal.
The king issued the threat that if Marley attacked the Walls, he would unleash the army of Colossus Titans hidden within them, to "flatten the earth." Marley didn't try to wage war against that threat, but instead infiltrated the walls to try to gain control of the Founding Titan. King Fritz used the Founding Titan's power to erase he memories of the Subjects of Ymir living behind the Walls, thereby starting the myth of "Humanity Within the Walls" being the last remnants of humanity, in a world overrun by Titans. Eventually the war came to an end, and King Fritz used the Founding Titan to order a squad of Colossus Titans to construct three walls around the remaining Eldian territories, giving rise to Walls Maria, Rose, and Sheena.
